Two-part video installation
Dimensions variable
Two projections, media player, two videos (each 5 min., looped)
The two-part video installation DO NOT CROSS shows rides alongside border fences in the United States, Belfast and Jerusalem. The rides are presented as stop motion videos composed of single-panorama shots. The images are taken from a common online service that shows street views worldwide. Each picture was divided vertically, as we would be willing to divide the world into good and evil; the wall on one half threateningly extends towards the rest of its composition. This second half shows houses, wasteland, normality – yet, in the face of (and facing across from) a border, normality is most obviously delusive. Our awareness of this form of normality changes our perspective towards it.
